Artist Profile

I enjoy the pursuit of watercolor painting, especially the use of color and detail in subjects of nature; I also enjoy trying to capture human nature in paintings of children and adults.  I have experimented with a series of Native American paintings, which have been popular.  I have also created a "sampler series" of florals which are somewhat different from the ordinary floral presentation.  Another style of painting that I enjoy is "imargination"--a style wherein I leave a small margin of white paper around sections of color.  Lately, I have been developing a series of succulent paintings, based on the flora of the Southwest.

Background: I have a B.A. degree in sociology from Northwestern University and an M.A. degree in Guidance & Counseling from Northeastern Illinois University.  I was involved in education in Glenview, IL and Bangor, MI for 27 years, until retirement in 1998.  Art activities have always been important to me, and I've spent years working in needlepoint, knitting, crewel work, and the design of note cards and  Christmas cards.  My watercolor experience began with a class at Evergreen Commons Senior Center, and I enjoy networking with other watercolor artists.  I am a member of Holland Friends of Art, the Holland Area Arts Council, the Muskegon Museum of Art, the Michigan Water Color Society, and am a sustaining member of the American Watercolor Society.  I take advantage of watercolor classes and workshops when I have the opportunity.

Local Activities: I belong to the Woman's Literary Club in Holland, MI; am a member of Chapter DF, P.E.O. Sisterhood; enjoy daily swimming at the Holland Aquatic Center; volunteer for Hospice of Holland, Inc.; and enjoy golf, needlepoint, and reading.  My husband is retired, and actively helps me with my website. We have one son and daughter-in-law living in Chandler, Arizona, with our  granddaughter Maya and grandson Charlie.
